Hi, I'm Joe and I'm currently studying mechanical engineering in my first year. Although I am a fresher and don't have as much experience with the team, I follow the sport closely and I have been part of many sports teams before university like: football(soccer), cricket, badminton and table tennis. I would like to be considered for the role of social secretary (preferably with jonny ;))as this job to me seems interesting. I feel I know a lot about the role already as I have spoken to Jordan, one of the current social secretaries, about what the job entails, and how to contact next years social secretaries of different sport groups to do joint socials. I feel I would be good at this role with Jonny as we would be living together next year, so communicating would be really easy. Furthermore, I have spoken to a couple other freshers who could host so I have venues in mind already, and gained some ideas on differences they would make to socials. I also feel I can communicate well with the other players, and I attend every training session which would set a good example to the freshers next year. Also, I feel I am a friendly and approachable person that will chat with anyone so this would be good for getting new freshers at the freshers fair. This was evident when I attended the refreshers fair and helped get most of the new people that signed up.
Some of my aims and ideas for next year are:
•Bring in new games at socials to make each week fresh and different
•Provide opportunities for other social events during the week, to cater for different peoples timetables and is another way to keep things new and fresh.
•Have a challenge at the freshers fair to draw freshers in that allows them to test the skills needed for American football, as this is a more engaging way of getting new freshers to sign up.
